About the fishery

The Green Frog at Moffat has two spring-fed lochans with separate fly and bait fishing arrangements, alongside a cafe and campsite. The operator currently states that bait fishing is closed until April 2027.

Two spring-fed lochans

  • The 4.5-acre fly lochan holds blue, brown and rainbow trout. It is fly only, with barbless hooks required.
  • The 1.5-acre bait lochan is described as holding rainbow and blue trout, with occasional brown trout. Both lochans form one physical fishery complex.

Cafe, campsite and hire

  • The site also has a cafe and campsite. Their booking links are for accommodation and should not be mistaken for fishing-ticket bookings.
  • Rod hire is offered by arrangement. The operator welcomes dogs on leads on the campsite and in the cafe; fishery-specific dog access and wheelchair fishing facilities were not confirmed.

Fishing access and booking

Fishing access and booking

  • The operator says fishing does not need advance booking unless rod hire is required. Confirm availability and the relevant permit before travelling, especially while bait fishing is closed.
  • All children aged 16 and under must be supervised by an age-appropriate person. Telephone 01683 221220 or email bookings@thegreenfrogmoffat.co.uk for enquiries.

Tickets and prices

Published starting prices

  • The undated fishery tariff advertises fly fishing from £14 for two hours of catch and release. Confirm current permit choices and prices.
  • The page also lists bait fishing from £14 including one fish. That is background tariff information only: bait fishing remains closed until April 2027.

Opening times and seasons

Bait fishingClosed until April 2027
Pond accessDuring shop hours; ponds close 15 minutes before the shop
Last entryTwo hours before closing

The operator's bait-fishing closure takes priority over its generic fishing description. No weekly shop timetable was confirmed and Google supplied no opening hours. Cafe or campsite hours do not establish fishing access.

Fishing rules

Bait fishing closure and pond hours

  • Bait fishing is closed until April 2027, according to the prominent notice on the fishery page. Do not interpret the generic bait-pond information below it as a reopening notice.
  • Fishing ponds operate during shop hours and close 15 minutes before the shop. Last entry is two hours before closing. Contact the venue for the current weekly timetable and fly-fishing availability.

Method and fish-retention rules

  • Fly fishing uses barbless hooks only. Fish may be returned or retained according to the permit and the fish.
  • For bait fishing when it reopens, the operator specifies catch and keep: all fish caught must be retained. It lists live bait, sweetcorn or prawns and prohibits spinners and Power Bait.
